My Dorm Tour 2012 

So first we have the couch, which you have already seen, the green curtain to the right leads into the bathroom/sink area and on that same wall I have my kithen stuff i.e. refrigerator, microwave,food…

 

Daniel was watching Football at the time so I hope the NFL doesn’t come after me for illegal use of their images or something like that. I made a “microwave cover” out of some scrap fabric I had because I couldn’t stand to look at it. 

The wall adjacent has my bookshelf (organized: Play’s and other Theatre related literature, non fiction, and fiction) and my television. I made the wall art myself. The ones above the microwave and refrigerator can be found here

the orange wall art is actually one of the first tutorials I ever posted and you can find it here if you want to make your own .

The chair and the desk were both make over items and the cork board was about three dollars plus the price of some ribbon I had.

 

the desk backs up to the bed which has storage above and below. Yes that is a Star Wars pillow. No, it doesn’t match, but it’s Star Wars 

more of my bedroom, I hate you can’t see the lady bug light above my bed in any of these shots :( 

one of my armoires divides the bedroom and living room. It is also where I have my Harry Potter tribute wall. All these were colored by my friends and Myself (I did the Harry at the top and the Sirius Black) from my 275 page Harry Potter coloring book. It is a work in progress

on the other side of the armoire and across from my bed I have my full length mirror and my thrifted and repurposed jewelry rack .

Sorry I haven’t been posting lately but I’ve been moving! (back into my dorm) and this year I have this really awesome couch but it didn’t exactly fit the rest of my decor

So I painted this curtain based on the flowers on the couch and the colors that are already in my room. Now I am not an expert on painting or on flora but I think I can live with this

After I finished reading the dessert edition of Our State magazine, I used the pages to make a garland of sweet treats around the “kitchen” section of my dorm.

sorry these pictures aren’t the best quality. the lighting in my room is pretty useless.  

the light post is drawn on my wall with chalk because it looked weird having all those cakes and pies end abruptly in the middle of a wall

personal art work

so here is another back up post since I still don’t have a camera.

I made this set of paintings/ collages last summer inspired by my favorite science fiction show and the dream to visit other worlds 

I made the second piece with the left over scraps from cutting out the stars for the first painting 

here they are hanging together above my bookshelf :)

Giant Gummy Bear

On a trip to the market I bought A giant plastic bear container filled with delicious jelly candies 

I recently finished eating all the candy so with some water and some dryed out markers I turned it into this 

I broke apart the markers and soaked them in the water until all the ink turned it to a color I was happy with. 

Now I have a giant gummy bear to hang out on my shelf!

Thrift Store Score

so my latest trip to Carolina Thrift yielded a tapestry with purple elephants! 

It was a great solution for that pesky window I haven’t covered. I was very excited to discover when I got home that it was the perfect size! 

I added a tie made out of scraps of purple fabric I braided together so that I could pull the tapestry out of the way to allow some light in when I need help waking up at 8 am. 

yay for a not naked window!

Here are shots of the rest of my finished room. The paintings on the wall and the jewelry hanger were all done by me. The belts are hanging on good ole thumb tacks that cost me less than a dollar. The book shelf I believe is from target or somewhere and all the nick nacks on the book shelf are Goodwill finds (my favorite is the owl book end on the bottom). I still need to get a window treatment and put photos in the empty picture frames but all in all I am happy to live in this space :)

I lofted my way to large desk that the school supplied above my bed. this freed up space and allowed for additional storage up top. I also purchased some curtains from target to make my bed seem like a canopy bed (rather than just a bed with a giant desk on top of it) I also used the side of the bed/desk for additional storage and not only is it super useful but I really like how colorful and fun the Ikea hanging organizer is and having my shoes on display adds a nice pop of color to the room.
